Capcom: Lost Faith in Dragon’s Dogma, Apparently

Capcom recently revealed their sales projections for four significant titles, with some games clearly assumed to become much more anticipated than other people. The information beneath is for fiscal year 2012, clearly, and consists of all regions and platforms, like usual. What it doesn't incorporate, having said that, is Capcom's sudden lack of faith in Dragon's Dogma.

The significant slugger, Resident Evil 6, is expected to hit 7 million copies, although Lost Planet three is aiming for 1.4 million. I'm really surprised at that final one, immediately after the brand damage that was performed by Lost Planet 2 according to diehard fans of the original.

Still angry about what Capcom allowed to happen to Dante in the new Devil May Cry reboot? Well, they're expecting someone to buy it, forecasting 2 million sold. Here's hoping– that'd probably be more than every other Ninja Theory title combined!

Finally, we come to the curious case of Dragon's Dogma, piqued at 1.5 million copies sold. That's certainly not bad, especially for a new IP. But recall a few months back when Capcom expected it's faux-Western RPG to sell 10 million copies, and was absolutely sure the title would break a million in Japan alone.

Even hopeful speculation by the game's devs does not make the 8.five million difference any less staggering, and it appears specifically odd when the producer of DD stated "in Japan, we are able to absolutely sell a million units" not even a month ago.

Maybe it was merely wishful thinking on the company's component, or perhaps they know some thing we don't. The game's demo released a number of weeks ago, and ranged from tepid to warm reception from the gamer community, but we don't know how frequently it was downloaded, and that might be a element in this odd contrast.

The game could have hit a development snag, too, or something along those lines, which Capcom feels might damage sales. It's no secret that Capcom loves releasing DLC that, arguably, should have been part of the original experience; what if that 40 hour campaign was only so long if you paid for half of it as DLC?

If they're expecting a sleeper hit here, well, they're suggesting it'll be more like a coma. We'll know for sure in a few short weeks how well-received both critically and commercially Dragon's Dogma is, but for now, we can only speculate.
